Pricing

No itemised price list, because machine firmware and a code audit share neither duration nor risk; firm orders of magnitude, though. What follows describes how I invoice, and what makes a quote move.

Flash diagnostic / second opinion

€1,200 – 1,800 excl. VAT

1–2 days

A qualified, independent outside view before you sign. I sell neither equipment nor integration: my only deliverable is an argued opinion.

  • An integrator’s quote to check
  • An automation project to frame
  • A call between two technical options
  • A written opinion, presented in person

Prototype build

Quoted

after a study

The possible next step after the study, never an obligation. Fixed price when the scope holds still, day rate when it does not.

  • Firmware and machine control
  • Embedded, real time, robotics
  • GPU computing and simulation
  • Test benches and instrumentation
  • Code in your repository from day one

Retained technical counsel

From €800 excl. VAT / month

0.5–1 day per month

The expert who already knows your file, available every month: reading quotes, preparing decisions, keeping an eye on contractors.

  • One session a month, on site or remote
  • Quotes and offers, read and challenged
  • Technical decisions, prepared
  • Duration and format set in the quote

AI process audit & integration

€1,800 – 2,800 excl. VAT

2–3 days · audit, then pilot

The audit maps the process, puts figures on the gains and recommends an architecture. The pilot integration, quoted, is measured before and after.

  • Process mapped, automatable tasks found
  • Gains put into figures
  • A measured pilot: time, cost, error rate
  • An independent verdict, including « no AI here »

What makes a quote move

At equal scope, these five points explain most of the gap between two projects.

  • Access to the hardware A machine available for trials, or a test bench to build before the first line is written.
  • Safety constraints A motion that can injure, a certification to obtain, a standard to meet: validation then weighs more than development.
  • Real time A control loop that must hold to the microsecond is not handled like a batch job.
  • What is already there Picking up documented, tested code, or a binary whose author has left.
  • The number of stakeholders A project with three decision-makers moves more slowly than one with a single one.

The open-source discount

If the result, or an identified part of it, can be released under a free software or open hardware licence, the quote goes down. The reason is simple and I would rather say it: what gets published becomes a building block I reuse for other clients. You fund less than the real cost, and the work outlives your project.

  • The discount and its scope are written into the quote, never assumed.
  • Anything touching your process, your settings or your product stays closed.
  • The licence is chosen together: it binds me as much as you.
  • Nothing is published before your written approval, nor before the project ends.
  • Declining publication has no consequence other than the full price.

Frequently asked

Is the discovery call really free?

Yes. Thirty minutes, no commitment. If the project is not a fit, I say so and we leave it there.

Is the study deducted from the project?

No: it is a deliverable you keep, including if you have someone else build it. It does make the delivery quote far more accurate, though, and usually cheaper.

Do you work remotely?

Yes, with visits on site when the hardware requires it: commissioning, machine trials, taking over a test bench. Travel costs appear in the quote.

How does invoicing work?

A deposit on order, then on milestones for a fixed price, or monthly on a day rate. Payment within thirty days.

What if the project goes off the rails?

We stop it. That is what short iterations are for: finding out early that a direction leads nowhere costs one iteration, not a project.

Do you sign non-disclosure agreements?

Yes, as a matter of course if you have one. Failing that, my terms already carry a confidentiality clause.
