Jules Topart

Doctor and engineer in mechanical engineering

I design machines and the software that drives them.

My ground is where mechanics, heat, control and code meet: additive manufacturing, machine control, digital twins. That is where projects stall most often, because each speciality assumes the problem belongs to the other one.

I trained as a mechanical engineer and I write firmware. The combination is uncommon, and it is usually why people call.

Professional experience

  1. FabLab

I developed additive manufacturing machines and robots there: mechanical design, electronics, firmware, software. With no support team and no budget, you learn to go quickly from sketch to a part that runs, and above all which steps can be skipped and which cannot.

Rapid prototyping, from design to a machine that works.

  2. Engineering school · teaching and research

I taught mechanical engineering. Alongside it, I put together and ran funded research projects, regional and international: writing the proposal, the budget, coordinating partners, progress reports.

Explaining a technical system to people who do not know it. Winning a funded project and seeing it through.

  3. University · research engineer

Multi-material, multi-process additive manufacturing: machines that lay down several materials, with several processes, in the same part. Few subjects force mechanics, heat, control and software to hold together quite as much. I also run international projects there.

Complex system architecture, digital twins, additive manufacturing.
